Gunter Hirschberg (1920-1989) was born in Berlin. From 1936 to 1947 he lived in England and Australia where he pursued a musical career. In 1944 Gunter married Ruth Hirschberg nee Burchard, also from Germany. In 1947/1948 the Hirschbergs moved to New York City where Gunter became cantor at a congregation in Brooklyn.
